"Golden Chef Hats 2017" - Lefteris Lazarou


For many many years as a child I used to hear my parents referring to a guy called "Lefteris", who had a nice restaurant somewhere close to our family house in Piraeus. Lefteris used to be my father's client, and they had come closer over the years, since both mum and dad visited "Varoulko" (that was the name of the restaurant; difficult for a kid to remember) very often.


After 25 year , I finally had the honor to meet him, mature enough to remember the name of his restaurant, then located at Pireos Street and to admire his seafood specialties.



Today, Mr Lazarou's been awarded with the “Golden Chef Hat” (first time in 1993) and Michelin Star (first time in 2002). In 2009, readers of Greek Magazine “STATUS” declared him as “Chef of the year 2009” for a second time.


Over the past 20 years, he represents and teaches the Greek cuisine around the world.


Varoulko Seaside, which has been awarded as “Best Greek Cuisine Restaurant” and “The Best Restaurant in the City” by the Athinorama guide is now located at Mikrolimano, Piraeus.


Yesterday, during the presentation of "Golden Chef Hats 2017", the Greek Cooking Awards, Mr Lazarou and Varoulko received one more Golden Chef Hat. Congratulations...
